Le chef de l’État tchadien, Idriss Déby Itno, a été investi, samedi 6 février, par son parti pour un sixième mandat à l’élection présidentielle du 11 avril prochain, a constaté un journaliste de l’AFP.
« Si l’émotion d’être investi candidat à une élection présidentielle est toujours forte, celle que je ressens aujourd’hui a une portée plus grandiose », a déclaré Idriss Déby Itno, au pouvoir depuis 30 ans et grand favori du scrutin, devant les militants de son parti, le Mouvement patriotique du salut (MPS).
« Permettez-moi, mes frères et sœurs, de vous dire que c’est après une mûre et profonde introspection, que j’ai décidé de répondre favorablement à cet appel, cet appel du peuple », a-t-il poursuivi, après avoir été désigné candidat par acclamation par les membres de son parti.
Agé de 68 ans, Idriss Déby dirige le pays d’une main de fer, en muselant et en empêchant l’opposition de manifester. Il a été récemment promu au rang de maréchal par l’Assemblée nationale, largement dominée par sa majorité.

Dans l’optique de ce scrutin, douze responsables des partis politiques de l’opposition ont scellé, mardi 2 février, « une alliance électorale » pour présenter un candidat unique à l’élection présidentielle.
Rappelons que la proclamation des résultats définitifs de la prochaine présidentielle par la Cour constitutionnelle est prévue pour le 15 mai. Un second tour éventuel est fixé le 23 mai. L’élection présidentielle d’avril sera suivie par des législatives, fixées en juillet dernier, au 24 octobre 2021, après avoir été maintes fois repoussées depuis 2015.
